CONTINUING EDUCATION FOR DEVELOPMENT HAPPY HOUR
ON WEDNESDAY, JUNE 30 AT 4 PM
AT CONFERENCE ROOM 131
This time we will discuss the topic DEVELOPMENT COMMUNICATIONS - HARNESSING ITS POWER TO CHANGE BEHAVIORS FOR DEVELOPMENT . Thanks to our new Professor CARLA QUEIROLO who will lead the discussions!m
Over time, academic attention to communication for social change has begun to eclipse development communication. The gradual shift in rhetoric is not linear, and may not represent an actual shift in practice or within the development industry led by bilateral and multilateral donors. However, it has achieved enough attention to warrant critical reflection.
After years of considerable critique against the perceived injuries resulting from a narrow implementation of development communications, scholarly attention began to reframe its work within the rubric of communication for social change .
While many good reasons for this shift in rethoric indeed exist, we now need to question what the new term embodies.
Communication for social change?
A new study reveals that increasing numbers of social network users check their Facebook and Twitter accounts in the middle of the night when they can't sleep. Some social networkers even revealed that they would look at messages while having sex.
